Rawalpindi’s Kutchery Chowk Project Nears Completion
The Punjab government has announced an updated timeline for the highly anticipated Kutchery Chowk Project in Rawalpindi. This crucial infrastructure initiative aims to significantly improve traffic flow and ease congestion in the city. Consequently, authorities are accelerating efforts to meet the revised targets, bringing much-needed relief to commuters.
New Deadlines and Project Milestones
Under the updated plan, the Kutchery Chowk will open to traffic by April 30. Furthermore, structural work is on track for completion before Eidul Fitr, demonstrating rapid progress. These deadlines reflect a renewed commitment to delivering the project efficiently.
Qamar Ali Saqib, Executive Engineer for the Punjab Highway Department, confirmed that over 45% of the project is already complete. He emphasized that the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) is working around the clock, ensuring all construction milestones for the Kutchery Chowk Project align with government objectives.
Key Features and Construction Progress
Significant progress has been made on critical components of this development. For instance, guide beam and piling work at Kutchery Chowk and the Jinnah Park underpass are now finished. Additionally, approximately 95% of the retaining wall work is complete, with boundary wall construction proceeding swiftly. This comprehensive approach ensures structural integrity and durability.
Mr. Saqib also stated that road construction will conclude in April. Following this, the chowk will officially open for public traffic as per government directives. Therefore, residents can anticipate smoother commutes very soon.

Beautification and Environmental Enhancements for Kutchery Chowk Project
Beyond its functional aspects, the Kutchery Chowk development also includes plans for beautification. The Punjab Highway Department has partnered with the Rawalpindi Parks and Horticulture Authority, which will commence plantation work next month. Funds for these aesthetic enhancements will become available once road construction is finalized.
Ultimately, the government has instructed authorities to plant various trees and flowers along the newly constructed flyovers and underpasses. This initiative aims to enhance the area’s aesthetic appeal and contribute to a greener urban environment. Consequently, the project delivers both efficiency and beauty.
