Revolutionizing Urban Greenery: Punjab Expands Adopt-a-Park Scheme

The Punjab Horticulture Authority (PHA), alongside its regional counterparts, is set to significantly expand the Punjab Adopt-a-Park Scheme to various cities across the province. This strategic move follows the successful launch of the initiative in Lahore, aiming to foster community involvement in maintaining and enhancing urban green spaces. Consequently, more citizens will soon have the opportunity to contribute to local park beautification.

PHA Director General Raja Mansoor Ahmad recently announced this crucial decision during a vital Zoom meeting with regional managing directors. Furthermore, he highlighted Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s strong directive to prioritize city beautification. She has urged horticulture agencies to intensely focus on the meticulous maintenance and aesthetic enhancement of parks, gardens, and green belts throughout Punjab.

Director General Ahmad also underscored the critical importance of timely material availability for the upcoming floral plantation season. He emphasized that adequate resources are paramount for successful greening efforts. Therefore, all regional agencies received instructions to promptly submit their comprehensive requirements regarding staff, machinery, and financial allocations to the parent authority. These detailed needs will then be meticulously compiled into a consolidated proposal for submission to the provincial government, streamlining the approval process.

Moreover, officials were directed to gather precise details of Beldars (garden laborers) currently serving in various government departments. Subsequently, necessary measures will be taken to secure their valuable services for regional horticulture agencies, enhancing the workforce dedicated to maintaining public green areas. Earlier in the meeting, managing directors provided comprehensive briefings on both their available resources and the prevalent challenges confronting their respective agencies, ensuring transparent communication and strategic planning.
