The Pakistan Super League (PSL) has officially confirmed a new venue for PSL 11: Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad. This significant decision makes Faisalabad the fifth city slated to host matches in the upcoming edition of Pakistan’s premier T20 tournament. Consequently, cricket fans in the region eagerly anticipate top-tier action.

Key Decisions from the PSL Governing Council
This major update emerged from a recent PSL Governing Council meeting. Held at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore, the meeting was chaired by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi. Representatives from all eight franchises, alongside senior PCB and PSL officials, actively participated in discussions.
Furthermore, the Governing Council solidified March 26 as the official start date for PSL 11. During the session, continued discussions also focused on crucial topics. These included player retentions and a proposed hybrid draft/auction model for the tournament.
Faisalabad Confirmed as PSL 11 New Venue
Faisalabad’s inclusion in the PSL 11 roster strategically aligns with ongoing franchise planning. Specifically, it relates to the new Sialkot PSL side. Earlier reports indicated that the Sialkot team explored a “home away from home” setup. Iqbal Stadium could potentially host its home fixtures, offering a temporary base. However, the franchise has not yet issued a final confirmation regarding this specific arrangement.
The concept gained considerable traction after franchise owner Hamza Majeed expressed that Faisalabad holds personal significance as a second home base. Moreover, this decision resonates with the PCB’s earlier directives. Mohsin Naqvi had previously stated that Iqbal Stadium would host PSL matches next year, even before the new franchise auction concluded.
Sialkot’s Vision and Iqbal Stadium’s Readiness
Meanwhile, Sialkot maintains its commitment to long-term plans within its own city. Jinnah Stadium is reportedly slated for a significant upgrade following Sialkot’s entry into the league. Consequently, this development promises a dedicated home ground for the new team.

However, if construction timelines extend, Faisalabad offers a readily available venue. Iqbal Stadium boasts recent experience hosting top-level cricket. For instance, it successfully staged a three-match ODI series against South Africa on November 25, drawing enthusiastic crowds and fostering a vibrant atmosphere. Historically known as Lyallpur Stadium, Iqbal Stadium remains one of Pakistan’s most revered cricket grounds.
