Pakistan IT Exports Reach Historic $400 Million Milestone
Pakistan IT exports have achieved an unprecedented milestone, recording their highest-ever monthly value. For the first time, the nation’s IT sector surpassed the $400 million mark in exports. Previously, the peak stood at $386 million in October 2025. This significant surge underscores the robust growth within Pakistan’s digital economy.
Analyzing the Remarkable Growth in IT Exports
Data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) reveals compelling statistics. In December 2025, Pakistan’s IT exports surged to $437 million. In contrast, this figure was $348 million during the same month last year, representing a substantial 25 percent year-on-year increase, or an $89 million rise. Furthermore, exports demonstrated over 22 percent growth compared to the $356 million inflows recorded in November 2025. This consistent upward trend highlights strong performance.

Driving Forces Behind Sustainable Export Growth
Consistent government policies play a crucial role in maintaining this sustainable export growth, as noted by Dr. Noman Said, a prominent IT exporter. He suggests that joint efforts between the government and the private sector will likely ensure this positive momentum continues. Consequently, IT companies are actively exploring new international markets, particularly within Gulf countries. They are also enhancing exports of emerging technologies in traditional markets to significantly scale overall export volumes. This strategic expansion is expected to fuel further export growth in the coming months.
Freelancers: A Vital Contribution to Pakistan’s Digital Economy
During the first half of the financial year, IT sector exports reached an impressive $2.23 billion. This marks a considerable jump from $1.86 billion recorded in the same period last year (July to December). Overall, this reflects a strong 19.5 percent year-on-year increase for Pakistan IT exports. Moreover, Ibrahim Amin, Chairman of the Pakistan Freelancers Association (PAFLA), emphasizes the vital role freelancers play in generating IT remittances for the country. He highlights that extensive training initiatives are provided by public-sector institutions and NGOs nationwide. Consequently, the number of freelancers and their economic contribution are steadily increasing. If this current pace persists, the IT sector could achieve exports between $4.2 billion and $4.5 billion by the end of the financial year.
