
The majority of Pakistan fixed broadband operators are successfully meeting regulatory quality standards. This positive news comes from a recent survey released by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), covering the fourth quarter of 2025. Consequently, this indicates generally stable internet service across the nation’s major cities.
The comprehensive Fixed Broadband Quality of Service Survey evaluated five broadband service providers. This extensive assessment took place across 29 cities, adhering strictly to the Fixed Broadband QoS Regulations of 2022. Therefore, the findings provide a clear snapshot of current service levels.
Understanding the PTA’s Assessment of Pakistan Fixed Broadband
The survey specifically focused on critical key performance indicators. These included network availability, latency, bandwidth utilization, jitter, and overall data throughput. Understanding these metrics is crucial for evaluating internet service quality.
According to the official report, operators in major urban hubs demonstrated significant compliance. Cities like Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Quetta, and Faisalabad largely met benchmarks for network reliability and data throughput. Furthermore, several service providers achieved 100% compliance within their specific service areas during the review period.
Addressing Performance Gaps in Pakistan Fixed Broadband
While overall compliance remained robust, the regulator did identify some performance gaps within certain networks. The survey, conducted between October 1 and December 2, 2025, highlighted specific areas for improvement. Consequently, the PTA has issued directives to address these issues.
For instance, network availability at core and access nodes fell below required thresholds for several operators. These included Classic Broadband, Net Cloud Telecom, and Khan Telecommunications. Clearly, these providers need to enhance their infrastructure.
Moreover, the PTA observed higher-than-allowed latency for some operators on both domestic and international routes. This suggests routing inefficiencies and existing capacity constraints. In addition, certain providers experienced congestion during peak usage hours, primarily due to high bandwidth utilization.
Instances of elevated jitter, which negatively impacts real-time services like video calls and online gaming, were also recorded for a limited number of operators. However, it’s noteworthy that all surveyed operators successfully met the minimum download and upload throughput requirements set by the regulator. This is a crucial positive indicator.
