Derbyshire Falcons have officially announced the signing of Pakistani ace spinner Sufiyan Muqeem. This dynamic left-arm wrist-spinner will bolster their squad for the initial phase of the 2026 Vitality Blast. Muqeem, a rising star in franchise cricket, brings a wealth of talent and experience to the English T20 circuit.
At just 26 years old, Muqeem has already established himself as a highly sought-after bowler. Notably, he holds a remarkable T20 international record, achieving figures of 5 for 3 for Pakistan. His consistent performance makes him one of the most exciting prospects in global T20 leagues.
Muqeem’s Impressive T20 Career and Reunion
Sufiyan Muqeem’s career statistics highlight his effectiveness. Across 38 T20 matches, he boasts an impressive economy rate of just 6.35 runs per over. Significantly, half of these appearances have been at the international level, demonstrating his ability to perform under pressure.

Furthermore, Muqeem previously collaborated with Derbyshire head coach Mickey Arthur. Their successful partnership occurred during their time together at the Rangpur Riders in the Bangladesh Premier League. This prior experience underscores a strong working relationship.

The 2026 Vitality Blast season will commence on May 22 and conclude on July 18. Derbyshire’s schedule includes six opening fixtures, notably the East Midlands Derby against Notts Outlaws on Friday, May 29, at The Central Co-op County Ground.
Sufiyan Muqeem’s International Cricket Record
Beyond T20, Sufiyan Muqeem has also made significant contributions at the international level in other formats. In four One-Day Internationals, he has secured eight wickets, maintaining an excellent economy rate of 4.91. This demonstrates his versatility and control.
