Karachi Safe City Project: Phase-I Nears Launch
The Sindh government has announced the imminent launch of Phase-I of the Karachi Safe City Project. Within two months, this critical initiative will go live. Installation work is now complete, and trial operations are currently underway, marking a significant step towards enhancing urban security in the metropolis.
Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah recently made this pivotal announcement during a key meeting at the Chief Minister House. He directed authorities to ensure the project becomes fully operational within the tight timeframe, emphasizing its importance for public safety.
Advanced Surveillance and Smart Technologies
Phase I of the project includes the strategic installation of surveillance cameras across vital locations. Specifically, areas like the Red Zone and the airport corridor are now under comprehensive watch. Live footage from these cameras is already being transmitted directly to the Central Police Office command and control center, enabling real-time monitoring.
Furthermore, this project aims to significantly improve public safety through a suite of advanced technologies:
- Real-time Monitoring: Constant surveillance ensures immediate response to incidents.
- Facial Recognition: Advanced AI for identifying individuals.
- Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR): Efficient tracking of vehicles.
- Intelligent Traffic Systems: Optimized traffic flow and incident detection.
To avoid any operational delays, authorities have also approved the recruitment of technical experts. These professionals will join on a temporary contractual basis, guaranteeing smooth execution and management of the sophisticated systems.
Budget Revisions and Future Expansion
The Chief Minister has approved a revised budget of Rs200 million for Phase-I. Consequently, funds have been reallocated to prioritize essential staffing and critical patrolling needs, ensuring the project’s effectiveness on the ground. This strategic adjustment underlines the government’s commitment to the project’s success.
Moreover, the Chief Minister directed the Sindh Safe City Authority to initiate preparations for similar vital projects. Hyderabad and Sukkur are next in line for these security enhancements. The Authority is tasked with submitting detailed implementation plans for approval, signaling a broader vision for safe cities across Sindh.
