Punjab Basant Rule: Kite Flying Banned in Parks During Festival
The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) has introduced a significant new regulation. Consequently, they have banned kite flying in public parks and greenbelts throughout the three-day Basant festival, beginning February 6. The Lahore administration is actively stepping up digital monitoring to ensure strict compliance with this Punjab Basant Rule.
Protecting Green Spaces During Basant
Raja Mansoor Ahmad, Managing Director of PHA, stated that this decisive action aims to safeguard trees and park infrastructure from potential damage during the festive period. Furthermore, the event historically draws substantial crowds from across Punjab, other provinces, and even international visitors. Given the public holiday on February 5 (Youm-i-Kashmir), the city anticipates a notable increase in footfall within parks and green spaces from February 4 evening onward.
Ahmad emphasized, “The parks will remain open, but kite flying will not be allowed.” He also confirmed that PHA enforcement teams are now on high alert to uphold these regulations.
Strict Enforcement and Accountability for Park Safety
An official PHA notification has explicitly directed all zonal directors to rigorously enforce the ban. The authority has issued a stern warning: any violation will be considered unacceptable. Moreover, any resulting damage or incidents will hold the responsible director accountable, reinforcing the importance of public safety during the Basant celebrations.
