People’s Train Service Launches in Balochistan
The Balochistan government recently announced a new People’s Train Service connecting Quetta and Kuchlak. This crucial project, aimed at boosting local connectivity, will receive an allocation of Rs. 1.4 billion in the near future. Consequently, this initiative signifies a major step towards enhancing public transportation in the region.
Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti revealed these plans during a significant meeting with Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi. Their discussion at the Chief Minister Secretariat centered on revitalizing Balochistan’s railway infrastructure. Specifically, they focused on forging a joint initiative between the provincial government and Pakistan Railways.
Furthermore, officials confirmed a fundamental agreement to embark on joint development projects. This collaboration notably includes this new railway link, promising improved access for residents.
A Landmark Collaboration for Provincial Railways
Federal Minister Hanif Abbasi lauded Balochistan’s decision, emphasizing its historical significance. He noted this marks the first instance where a province has proactively undertaken such a railway initiative under Pakistan’s devolution framework. This collaborative spirit between the federation and provinces is truly commendable.
Abbasi highlighted Balochistan’s pioneering role in this endeavor. While other provinces expressed interest in local railway services, Balochistan has taken decisive action. Therefore, this project will function as a joint venture between Pakistan Railways and the provincial government. Importantly, Chief Minister Bugti affirmed that the Balochistan government will fully fund the construction of new stations and the crucial upgrading of existing infrastructure. This commitment underscores a long-term vision for robust public transport.
Looking ahead, the government envisions expanding the Quetta-Kuchlak service. If this initial phase proves successful, plans include extending the railway network to Mastung, Pishin, and other vital areas across the province. Such expansion will further solidify regional connectivity and economic growth.
