The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government is significantly bolstering security for Peshawar High Court (PHC) judges. Consequently, they are procuring two high-security KP armored vehicles, each costing between Rs. 150 million and Rs. 200 million. This move directly addresses judicial safety concerns, ensuring a more secure environment for court officials.
The Procurement Process for KP Armored Vehicles
Initially, the provincial cabinet approved the acquisition of these specialized vehicles for High Court judges. Currently, the purchase process is well underway. The Peshawar High Court has published a detailed tender document on its official website, inviting bids for two vehicles with specific requirements. Interested parties must submit their proposals by February 4, 2026.
Upon acquisition, these new vehicles will join the High Court’s official vehicle pool. Under existing regulations, High Court judges are typically entitled to two official vehicles, limited to an engine capacity not exceeding 1,800cc. Therefore, adding these high-level security vehicles marks a notable upgrade.
Ensuring Robust Judicial Protection
With the integration of the two new armored vehicles, the older vehicle presently in use will likely be retired from the official fleet. The Peshawar High Court’s Public Relations Officer confirmed that the court will utilize these vehicles collectively for official duties. These duties include crucial visits and court proceedings within sensitive districts. Furthermore, the existing vehicles will be returned to the government, streamlining the transition.
Understanding B7-Level Ballistic Protection
The acquired vehicles feature B7-level ballistic protection, representing the highest civilian security standard available. This advanced protection system is engineered to withstand severe threats, including armor-piercing rounds, grenade blasts, and even underbody explosions. Such formidable defense capabilities are crucial for ensuring the safety of judges in high-risk areas.
Reportedly, the base cost of a standard 2026 vehicle is approximately Rs. 120 million before any modifications. However, the price escalates considerably after implementing the comprehensive B7-level armoring. Consequently, the final cost of each specialized vehicle falls within the Rs. 150 million to Rs. 200 million range, reflecting the extensive security enhancements.
