The 50th NBP Snooker Championship, a significant milestone in Pakistan’s sports calendar, officially began on January 13. Hosted at the renowned NBP Sports Complex in Karachi, this event marks half a century of excellence. It further highlights the enduring legacy and increasing popularity of snooker across the nation. Moreover, the opening ceremony featured prominent figures from both the sports and banking sectors, underscoring the strong collaborative effort behind this prestigious snooker tournament.

NBP’s Enduring Commitment to Pakistan Snooker
The championship launch included a vital press conference. Mr. Abdul Qadir Memon, President of the Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association (PBSA), led this event at the Muslim Gymkhana Karachi. He expressed profound gratitude to the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP). Specifically, he lauded their unwavering support for the sport over many years, particularly for the NBP Snooker Championship.
Mr. Memon stated, “For the past 16 years, National Bank has been the pillar of support for our National Championship. We are delighted to have them back as our sponsor once again this year.” Consequently, his statement emphasized NBP’s crucial role in fostering snooker talent nationwide. This consistent backing is vital for the sport’s growth.
Distinguished attendees reinforced the strong partnership between NBP and PBSA. These included Sher Muhammad, Senior Vice President and Head of NBP’s Sports Wing, and Muhammad Farhan from NBP Sports. Furthermore, Naveed Kapadia, Tournament Director & Secretary of PBSA, Hussain Haroon, Chief Patron of Muslim Gym Khana, Alamgir Shaikh, Past President, and Mir Mubashir Ibrahim, Patron of Muslim Gym Khan were also present.

Championship Structure and Impressive Prize Pool
This year’s NBP Snooker Championship offers an impressive total prize pool of Rs 1,600,000. The champion will receive a substantial Rs 350,000. Meanwhile, the runner-up will take home Rs 200,000. Semi-finalists each earn Rs 150,000, and quarter-finalists are awarded Rs 16,000. Clearly, this generous prize money will fuel intense competition among participants in this prestigious snooker competition.
A total of 48 skilled players from across Pakistan are competing vigorously in 12 groups. The format ensures a rigorous path to the top. The leading two players from each group will advance to the highly anticipated Knockout Round. The grand finale promises a captivating display of skill and strategy, contested over a thrilling best-of-11 frames. Defending champion Shahid Aftab aims to retain his title amid fierce competition.
